Intro

AMC Composites offers a range of surface finishing services designed to enhance the performance and durability of carbon fiber and other composite materials. These services are tailored to ensure optimal results for both functional and aesthetic requirements, providing high-quality finishes for prototypes and production components. All surface finishing operations are performed in a controlled environment. Facility specifications can be furnished upon request.

Please note we offer the option of no surface finishing, often referred to as raw carbon fiber. This is typical in the prototype phase or in maximum lightweight performance applications. Additionally, we have the ability to apply multiple surface finishes on one component.

Surface Preparation (Sanding)

Surface preparation begins with cleaning and inspecting the composite to remove contaminants and identify any imperfections. We employ wet sanding to smooth out uneven surfaces and prepare it for subsequent finishing steps. Once the desired finish is achieved the part is ready for surface coating if specified. After the surface coating is applied the part is once again wet sanded.

Clear Coat

For applications where the natural carbon fiber weave or chopped fiber is showcased, clear coating may be applied to achieve the customers’ desired appearance. Our clear coats are offered in various colors and thicknesses suitable for any application. In harsh environments, this protective layer is recommended to provide UV resistance, preventing discoloration and extending the lifespan of the composite. Clear coating is standard in our manufacturing process and is typically recommended.

Painting

We provide painting services for composites that require a customized appearance. This includes full-surface painting, accent colors, or branding applications. Multiple finish options are available, including matte, satin, and gloss, allowing for tailored surface designs depending on the specific project requirements.

Polishing

Polishing is offered to further refine and enhance the finish of composite components. This step is used to achieve uniform surface finish on carbon fiber components where the exposed fiber is emphasized for aesthetic purposes. Polishing removes minor imperfections and ensures surface uniformity.

Labeling & Engraving

Used in our OEM production applications, we have the ability to tag, label, and engrave completed components. This is invaluable for tracking lot numbers, ensuring traceability throughout the supply chain, or for compliance, quality control, and branding purposes.

Our labeling capabilities include adhesive labels, printed tags, and directly applied markings, allowing for temporary or permanent, tamper-resistant identification.
