Developed to reduce waste for production components, AMC Composites utilizes kit cutting of carbon fiber cloth to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Kit cutting is the process of cutting material on a 3-Axis cutting table, typically individual patterns that make up sections of the component mold. Once cut, the “kit” contains all patterns needed to lay up the mold. Pieces are laid into their respective position and orientation in the mold, saving the technician trimming time. We have the ability to cut material from sheets or spools. Spools are recommended for higher efficiency. Standard materials are cut with drag knives or cutting wheels. We can also accommodate the cutting of thin metals with proper tooling.

Kit cutting is an essential process in the manufacturing of pre impregnated carbon fiber components, enabling efficient material utilization and cost savings. By carefully optimizing the layout of patterns, we minimize material waste while maximizing the use of each roll of fabric. This is achieved through a nesting process, where patterns are strategically arranged within the available dimensions of the composite cloth. This level of optimization not only conserves material but also ensures consistency and repeatability across high-volume production runs. The result is a streamlined manufacturing process that reduces costs without compromising quality.
Kit cutting is particularly beneficial in industries requiring consistent, high-quality composite parts, such as aerospace, automotive, marine, and industrial applications. This process ensures that each part is not only cost-effective but also meets stringent design and performance requirements.
While we predominantly utilize kit cutting for high volume pre-impregnated of pre impregnated carbon fiber, we have the ability to create kits from various additional materials.
